Amazing Bean Burgers

These bean burgers are truly AMAZING! They are my go-to recipe when the fridge is nearing bare but I still want something substantial. If you’re new to the bean-burger-world, please know that these do not taste like beef burgers! They aren’t supposed to. These also aren’t the type of burgers that you eat on a bun, rather serve them on top of a salad of leafy greens and top with tomatoes and avocado! They are packed with enough flavor on their own that you won’t miss the bun one bit – I promise!

They do take some effort though, especially if you don’t have some cooked or BPA-free canned beans on hand. I like to use dried beans whenever I can because of the health benefits over canned, but if your in a pinch canned beans can do just fine. Just make sure that you always buy BPA free when buying any canned goods. Read more about BPA and canned food in this article by the Environment Working Group (

Serving size: about 5-6 burgers

Amazing Bean Burgers

  • 2 tsp ground flax + 5 tbsp filtered water
  • Approx. 10 mushrooms
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 cup cooked pinto beans, or 1 can (make sure it’s BPA free)
  • 1 cup cooked kidney beans, or 1 can (make sure it’s BPA free)
  • 1 cup oats
  • 1 tsp each turmeric, cumin, coriander, paprika, sea salt,
  • ¼ tsp cayenne pepper
  • Sprinkle of pepper
  • Fresh squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil

  • leafy greens
  • tomatoes
  • organic avocado
  • olive oil
  • lemon juice

Combine ground flax seeds with filtered water in a small cup and let sit for a few minutes. It should get thick and ‘eggy’ in texture.

Meanwhile, add mushrooms and garlic to food processor and blend until finely chopped. Transfer to a large mixing bowl. Add beans and flax mixture in batches to the food processor and process until smooth/chunky. Transfer to the bowl. Add the remaining ingredients, except coconut oil, to the bowl and mix it all up.

Heat coconut oil in a stainless steel frying pan over medium heat. Divide bean mixture into 5-6 burger patties and add to the frying pan. Cook for about 4 mins on each side or until golden brown.

Serve patties on top of green leafy veggies and top with tomato, avocado, lemon juice, and olive oil.

Bookmarked! I’m all for trying out new bean burgers.

Also, it’s super awesome that you tag the vegan recipes. It makes it super easy to sift to the recipes that I’m interested in.
